Marie Wilks

Marie was 22 when she was murdered.ÌýShe had trained as a nurse, but had given up her career when she married. She was seven months pregnant, with her second child, when she was murdered. Her son was 13 months old at the time of the murder, and was in the car on the M50.

He was 27 when his wife was murdered.ÌýAt the time he was a self-employed carpenter.ÌýHe also did voluntary work with the Hereford and Worcester Army Cadet Force.ÌýMarie was returning from visiting him at a cadet camp at Symonds Yat on the day she was murdered.

Marie's parents - lived in St John's at the time of their daughter's murder. She got the Police to call them, after breaking down on the M50, but her father was out in the family car.
They had four other daughters - the youngest, Georgina, was also in the car on the M50, when her sister was killed.ÌýShe was only eleven at the time, and a Police squad car from Strensham services found her walking up the hard shoulder, carrying Marie's baby boy.

He was 32, when he was arrested and tried for the murder.ÌýHe was a night club bouncer, from the Rhondda Valley in South Wales.
His wife was also seven months pregnant at the time of the murder. He had one daughter.
The couple subsequently divorced, and Eddie Browning has remarried.

Led the investigation, and was 50 at the time of the murder.ÌýHe had investigated 80 murders up to that point, and got 78 convictions.
He was profiled in the Worcester Evening News on 24 June 1988, and explained his investigating style:
"No matter how sophisticated our equipment, a detective following his nose, and the kind of work we have been doing for 150 years, leads us to the person who commits these grave offences."

Inspector Peter Clarke

He was an off duty Policeman who drove past the murder scene on 18 June. The video of the evidence he gave, partly under hypnosis, was never shown to the defence. This was one of the key reasons why Eddie Browning was cleared by the Court of Appeal.
