I was 13 years old at the outbreak of war. Earliest memories:parents listening to radio, stupidly eating iron-rations within minutes of entering school air-raid shelter,Mother endlessly queueing for extras to feed the family (e.g. rabbits).
Later, Cambridge was an exciting place for an older teenager girl with no close family connections to the war. Voluntary work at the WRVS,YMCA and Sunday night concerts at the Guildhall, serving the many brave servicemen from the barracks, aerodromes and training colleges all around.
Finally, I remember the blackout;no fears from the darkness then, only the danger of walking into a brick wall!!
