This is just a little amusing story I remember about something that happened during the war.

My father was in the ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ Watch and one night, along with a gentleman called Mr. Houghton was on guard at his post. Some planes, presumably German came flying over and father and Mr. Houghton promptly abandoned their post and flew into the house, probably hiding under the stairs.

A few days later a letter came praising them for their courage in standing firm at their post in spite of enemy aircraft, obviously they hadn’t been spotted scuttling indoors!!
