My father, John Smith was a lance corporal in the Western Desert with the RAF in 1942 and 1943. When Rommel was defeated, he was then posted to various sites in Italy (in 1944?), including Foggia.

I have photgraphs of him as a member of a RAF football team, and also photos of an opposition team. These photographs were obviously taken in the desert, and the event looks like a "final" or something fairly important (substantial amount of spectators).

Does anyone know of anybody who played football for the RAF, or against the RAF in the desert - or at Foggia? If you know of anyone, he might be able to be identified from the photos.

Also, does anyone have any more information on these football events (eg name of teams, leagues, knock-out competitions etc) and on any running events, which my father also took part in?
