Maybe you have, friends, family or elderly parents who live elsewhere or a vulnerable neighbour down the street - could they cope during an emergency?

‘What If...’ is a three-day campaign running on ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ Radio Leicester designed to help you and your family be better prepared for the challenges life can throw at us.

We can't prepare for every eventuality but there are some common problems that might result from flooding or fire eg. power failures, loss of water supply or loss of communications like telephones for which we can prepare.

Emergency

From Monday to Wednesday January 12th - 14th, ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ Leicester's Tony Wadsworth was joined by experts from Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland's emergency planning departments: Police, Fire, Health and Utility Services as well the Environment Agency and Met Office.

They'll be providing some simple measures to help you cope with the risk of flooding, fire, chemical leaks or even pandemic flu.

It's not rocket science: you'll have heard many of the messages before like checking the batteries in your smoke alarms. However, as we all know, it’s one thing to hear a message and another to act upon it.
