China announces first Covid-related deaths in six months
On Sunday, China announced its first Covid-related death in six months. On Monday, two more were added. All three were recorded in Beijing.
Officials there have already implemented a lockdown in the Haidian part of the capital with shops, schools and restaurants closed, and three million people urged to stay at home. People travelling to the capital will have to test for the first three days of their visit and stay inside until they are given the all-clear.
Professor Jane Duckett, director of the Scottish Centre for China Research at Glasgow University, outlines the current situation. "Every province is affected but several have got particularly large outbreaks" she says.
