Trump impeachment: Will the Senate vote for a conviction?

Newshour

Available for over a year

The US Senate has found that the impeachment trial of former President Donald Trump is constitutional, allowing full proceedings to begin. Mr Trump is accused of "inciting insurrection" when Congress was stormed last month. In order for a conviction to go ahead, 17 Republican votes would be needed, alongside the 50 Democrats. Republican strategist Seth Weathers claims that the trial is 'political theatre' and will not result in a conviction. However, former Democratic Senator Tom Udall believes that there is a chance it will succeed.
