What we do
成人快手 Cymru Wales commissioning team are at the forefront of the development and decision making process for drama, comedy and factual content on television and iPlayer. We commission the very best storytellers to do their very best work, portraying Wales as it is in all its forms with the intention of creating content to educate, inspire and entertain the whole of the UK.
Current Opportunities
Below are the webinar highlights from the first of eight commissioning briefings to be held over the coming 12 months:
- Premium Documentary
- Landmark History
- Fun Factual Series x2
- High Volume, low tariff archive series x1
The overall strategy remains the same. 成人快手 Cymru Wales wants high impact premium shows and we want high volume low tariff shows. We emphasise the importance of returning brands too.
We spoke about the importance and our commitment to development deals and that we would like to spend on development if we show interest in one of your ideas.
Key Opportunities for Premium Documentaries
The 成人快手 is committed to high-impact, iPlayer-first documentaries that tell powerful, immersive stories.
Limited Series & Singles
What we鈥檙e looking for:
- iPlayer first, distinctive, must-watch content.
- Immersive, authentic, character-driven storytelling.
- Multi-layered narratives with a strong sense of place.
馃搶 We are not looking for straight forward or dark crime - what are the unexpected, 鈥渟tranger than fiction鈥 stories? We described them as 鈥渃rime adjacent鈥 鈥 capers which make you smile when you hear about them.
Returning Brands
What we鈥檙e looking for:
- Fresh, access-driven observational documentaries that offer a window into modern Wales.
- Brands work hard to transition audiences from linear to iPlayer.
- New approaches rather than duplicating existing series (Ambulance, Parole, Forensics).
馃搶 Pitch an approach rather than just access 鈥 e.g. multiple perspectives in Murder 24/7 or forensic science-driven storytelling.
High-Impact Wales-Only
What we鈥檙e looking for:
- Standalone, high-impact documentaries with deep emotional resonance.
- Wales-focused stories that can reach a broad audience.
- The ability to stand alone or be picked up by Network (SOS: Extreme Rescues).
Younger-Skewing (成人快手 Three Focus)
Room on slate in 26/27
What we鈥檙e looking for:
- Documentary boxsets with young editorial and protagonists.
- Stories that reflect the chaotic world young people navigate today.
- Jaw-dropping singles with unique access to fresh, relevant stories.
- Not looking for formatted fact-ent or younger versions of institutional access docs (e.g. police, hospital).
馃搶 Think beyond talent-led issue-based explorations 鈥 we want strong narratives that engage younger audiences.
鉁 Examples: Paranormal, Ibiza, Confessions of a Teenage Fraudster, Ashley Cain: Into the Danger Zone.
Specialist Factual
- Landmark series that speak to the whole nation, returning brands that people love and trust, and high-impact singles with a compelling narrative鈥 must resonate with both Wales and Network audiences.
- History with scale, ambition, and modern storytelling (e.g., CGI, AI, new angles).
- Opportunities: Big ideas with potential for co-funding and Network reach.
Daytime
- Long-running, returnable series (10+ episodes) with a positive, content-rich, C2DE audience appeal.
- Opportunities: 鈥淎fternoon treats鈥 鈥 uplifting, engaging shows that avoid crime, consumer, or property formats.
- Co-commissioning model: 成人快手 Wales funds initial Welsh episodes, then integrates into broader Daytime runs.
Factual Entertainment & Fun Factual
- New, long-running entertainment brands that offer fun, heartwarming content
- Potential formats could include Hybrid shows (e.g., travel + makeover + relationships), Archive-based formats with a fresh twist, Celeb-led travel but with new faces & angles.
- Casting note: Please discuss ideas with commissioning editors before securing presenter
Arts
- Major Arts projects with scale, ambition, and Network potential.
- Opportunities: Big cultural moments, festivals, concerts, and Wales-focused arts stories.
In conclusion
Can you please put 500 words onto Picos by 11th April 2025. We鈥檙e not looking for fully worked up decks. We will then move into a period of funded development after the Easter break for all the front runners.
If you do wish to add some colour to your short proposals please use the 鈥榮upporting media鈥 section on PiCos.
