with Tony Kearney
The ethics of our global food production system, a review of Louis Theroux's The Settlers and an interview with the Director of the Vatican's Observatory, Brother Guy Consolmagno.
As our supermarket aisles have become increasingly packed with ultra-processed foods over the past two decades, author Stuart Gillespie shares his experience of working in food policy and nutrition with Tony. Together they examine the impact of hidden salt and sugar on our personal health, and on that of the planet and ask what we could do better.
With this Thursday 8th May marking the anniversary of Victory in Europe (or 鈥榁E Day鈥) Tony chats to Rev Gillian Paterson, Church of Scotland minister in Methill, Fife and hears the moving story and joyous VE day memories of her fearless Dad Albert who died two years ago at the age of 98. Shot down over Germany in 1943, Albert spent the rest of the war in a German Prisoner of War camp, before setting off on the long journey home to Scotland after liberation in 鈥45.
This week鈥檚 guest sharing their Spiritual Life with Tony is none other than the Pope鈥檚 Astronomer, Brother Guy Consolmagno. Director of the Vatican Observatory, Brother Guy joins Tony to discuss life in Vatican City and Arizona, the conflict between faith and science, life on other planets and the acceptance he found in the Jesuit Brotherhood.
Our Faith Forum panellists this week: are Jewish author Rodge Glass, professor Mona Siddiqui and Rector of the Holy Trinity Melrose, Philip Blackledge.
Together they鈥檒l be discussing Louis Theroux鈥檚 new documentary 鈥淭he Settlers鈥 which follows the growing community of Israeli citizens who have settled in the occupied West Bank.
As the final series of dystopian drama The Handmaid鈥檚 Tale begins, our panellists will also explore the relevance of Atwood鈥檚 story today.
And finally, with the revelation that celebrity A-listers George and Amal Clooney have never had a fight, our panel ponders the pros and cons of the argument.
