Dire Straits '78 debut!

Bob marks the debut release from Dire Straits for his 'Best of the Test'.

The musical landscape in the UK in 1978 was effervescing with the development of punk and new wave. Not that Dire Straits took any notice... their debut release bore no resemblance to the cultural shift in the sound of guitar bands, and in turn, their catchy, sparse style and vivid portrait songs struck a chord with the record-buying public. Bob will mark the release of their debut single, 'Sultans of Swing', with a look back at their first appearance on 'The Old Grey Whistle Test' and an chat from the archives with frontman Mark Knopfler.

Also on the show, Bob's got another 70s Country Classic, and he's marking the upcoming 80th birthday of The Who's Pete Townshend in the 'Rock Date Diary'.
