Welcome to New Quay in Wales, where the livelihoods and legacies of the community are tied to the rhythm of the bottlenose dolphins that live in the bay.
Each spring, something extraordinary happens off the west coast of Wales. In the beautiful harbour town of Cei Newydd (New Quay), the winter winds ease, the boats return to water and the community readies itself, not just for the arrival of tourists but for the return of the incredible dolphin pods.
New Quay is home to the largest semi-resident population of bottlenose dolphins in Europe. No-one quite knows why they come or why they return, but for decades the town has adapted itself to their rhythm. Dolphins are New Quay鈥檚 lifeblood, drawing in visitors, sustaining livelihoods and inspiring local pride.
2025 marks an important year for the community. Marine biologist Dr Sarah Perry hopes to reveal more about the enigmatic dolphins by using cutting-edge research and collecting samples of dolphin poo. Skipper Daf Lewis is looking forward to a busy season of boat tours, while local legend, 85-year-old Winston Evans, is celebrating 70 years as the owner of the world鈥檚 longest-running dolphin-spotting tour company.
The community in New Quay is united by its passion for these wondrous and mysterious creatures. This documentary follows the people whose livelihoods and legacies are tied to the rhythm of the dolphins.
