Former England captain Andrew Strauss says that despite their differences Kevin Pietersen was "the best England player that I've ever played with."

Strauss who is now England's director of cricket called Pietersen "magnificent" following his retirement last week and insisted a long-running feud between them was "very much in the past now."

The pair famously clashed following an incident which saw Pietersen send text messages critical of Strauss to opposition South Africa players during England鈥檚 home series with the Proteas in 2012. Then as Director of Cricket Strauss chose not to consider Pietersen for selection in 2015 because of a "massive trust issue between the two."
