Unusual immersive portrait of modern China in Ascension documentary
The documentary Ascension offers a collage of images of modern China to show its relationship with capitalism. Distilled from visits to some 50 locations, the Oscar-nominated documentary shows a country undergoing tumultuous change. Created by New York-based Chinese-American filmmaker Jessica Kingdon, Ascension has no narration or talking heads but manages to give a very intimate sense of different aspects of life in modern China.
