Vet Emily and Master Wheelwright Phill from West Lancashire had plans to go travelling in a horse drawn wagon when their daughter was born. Sadly, Elsie was born with Mitochondrial disease and died at one month old. The couple decided to keep to their plans and eight months after Elsie’s death they set off from their home with the aim of travelling one thousand miles to the south of France, calling it ‘Elsie’s Journey’. Emily and Phill used the journey to highlight Mitochondrial disease, raise money for children’s charities and to help them in their grief.
