‘My six-year-old has missed out on years of learning’
Available for over a year
6-year-old Daniel has only been able to spend 1 hour a day in school due to his severe autism. His family say he needs one-to-one care so he cannot cope in a classroom and has missed out on years of learning. His mum Cheryl says he isn't getting the right care in mainstream education and she's been turned down time after time when it comes to finding him specialist care. Stoke-on-Trent City Council says it's committed to give children the best chance of success in their local community and it fully considers parent's preferences when considering each child's needs but evidence shows children do better in mainstream settings than they would in specialist provision.
